About PBD, Packaging By Design
PBD, Packaging By Design: Flexo printer and custom manufacturer of pouches and back seam bags for the candy, retail, food, aerospace, merchandise, agricultural, automotive, cosmetics, dairy, optical, pharmaceutical and medical industries. Three side seal laminated and stand-up (bottom gusset) pouches also available. Capabilities include flexographic printing, lamination and slitting. Film converting services are provided. Low to high volume production offered.
PBD was established in 1983. Family owned and operated, the custom printing company started out in a 16,000 sq. ft. building in Niles, IL, which operated 2 6-color stack printing presses and two adhesive laminators for the candy, retail, food, general merchandise, and medical industries.
In 1993, PBD under went the transformation from a solvent ink and adhesive system over to a water-based system was completed, making Packaging By Design one of the few flexo printers / converters in the industry that have gone to a complete water-based system for both printing inks and lamination adhesives. Since all chemical processes for water-based inks are very low VOC, it creates lower odor and highly resistant print surfaces (both scuff resistance and chemical resistance). Laminations have superior optics and are created with “0” VOC catalyzed adhesives systems making your product more environmental friendly and giving our customers an edge on sustainable packaging. In the 2000’s PBD more than doubled its capacity and moved into its new 37,000 sq.ft. building based out of Elgin, IL. In addition, PBD expanded its resources and machinery up to 3 adhesive laminators and 4 color printing presses with state of the art 10 color printing capabilities. What once focused on as a regional converter has now expanded from coast to coast.

Today, its 2024, we are stepping into a new decade without fear. Some industry veterans hit cruise control after years of success. We decided to celebrate 40 years in flexo printing by investing in ourselves and our partners.
